Ange Postecoglou bigs up Tottenham Hotspur star at Euro 2024 after Ian Wright's question

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was on punditry duty at Euro 2024 on Saturday.

After arriving from Celtic last summer, many inside the four walls of the Premier League were asking more questions than knowing the answers to the new man in Tottenham’s dugout.

For those who don’t watch Celtic, there was an element of unknown about Ange Postecoglou, but in next to no time, he won over a lot of fans, including those from the outside.

One of the reasons for that was his way of talking to the media and that came across in bucket loads once more during his punditry stint as Belgium beat Romania at Euro 2024 on Saturday evening.

Before the contest could kick-off, the discussion turned to a man very familiar to Postecoglou at Spurs.

Radu Dragusin joined Tottenham in January and made a handful of starts as he began life slowly in the Premier League.

Ian Wright asked Postecoglou about Dragusin after his impressive opening performance at Euro 2024 and how he is ‘adapting’ to playing under him.

The former Arsenal striker was told that Dragusin is a ‘brave passer of the ball’ and even though it ‘sounds weird’, he is someone who just ‘loves defending’, as he told ITV Sport.

All in all, Postecoglou was full of high praise for Dragusin after he came up against Belgium and Romelu Lukaku.

“Can I just say with Dragusin, he had a great game (against Ukraine), 10 clearances and he was on the floor winning the duels,” said Wright. “He is someone who came from a team like Genoa, who don’t have a lot of the ball. How is he adapting at Spurs, in respect of more possession that you are probably going to have?”

Postecoglou responded: “He’s a super kid. He really wants to learn. He actually went to Juventus at a very young age, so he has been schooled in Italian defending. I know it sounds weird, but he is a defender who loves defending. He loves the physical contact. He will be relishing coming up against Lukaku. Every time they clash, he will be relishing. He’s that kind of defender.

“You know, he is a brave passer as well. He is sort of adding that to his game. He is only 22, but he’s a great kid and super happy that we have got him at Spurs.”

Radu Dragusin at Tottenham next season

The Romanian star has had his six months to settle down and now the pressure will be really on him next season.

His game time will increase because Spurs are going to be in Europe and there will be some expectation for them to win it.

Nobody is separating Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the heart of Tottenham’s defence yet, at this moment in time.

But that’s what Dragusin needs to set out to do if he wants to win over the Spurs fan like how the people of Romania love him because he is a bit of a cult hero.
