Idaho dad charged with murder in son's killing

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - A 27-year-old Pocatello man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 6-year-old son.

The Bannock County prosecutor's office announced the charge against Anthony Blake Viles on Tuesday. He was to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. His bail was set at $1 million.

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Vic Pearson says when a child under the age of 12 dies as a result of aggravated battery, it becomes a first-degree murder case.

Viles was held on felony charges for injury to a child after he acknowledged striking Afton Allison last week. The boy died Sunday evening at a Salt Lake City hospital.

More than 50 people attended a candlelight vigil for Afton Monday night in Pocatello. Jessica Allison-Wrigley told those in attendance that her son's organs were donated to children awaiting transplants.
