Is Cardi B Muslim?

Cardi B is known for her upbringing in the South Bronx of New York and her time spent in the stripping industry that introduced her to music and, ultimately, helped her develop her successful rap career. With that, religion is not always a highly conversed topic when it comes to Cardi B, so let’s take a different perspective.

It’s thought that Cardi B is not Muslim, as she claims to be a member of the Catholic chuch. Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity that is the prominent religion of Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, which are the native countries of her parents.

Still, even though Cardi B is Catholic, that does not mean she has not become the topic of conversation among Islamic women in European countries.

Loyal to Her Roots

If you follow Cardi B on Instagram, you know how much her family means to her, especially her daughter. But, if you don’t follow her on Instagram, you can see the picture of her with her daughter on her private jet after a weekend spent with family below.

Either way, it is no secret that Cardi B is loyal to her family–including her generational roots. Her parents are both immigrants of the United States, as her mother is from Trinidad and her father is from the Dominican Republic.

In accordance with the national religion of both countries, Cardi B was raised Catholic and still claims to be a member of the Catholic church to this day.

Cardi B was raised in the South Bronx of New York, and is proud of it. She claims that this gave her something to rap about when she started her rapping career, which would become quite successful and shatter several records of female artists who came before her.

By the age of 16, when Cardi B was in high school, she was affiliated with a gang in the South Bronx. Still, she became a cashier at an Amish market as a high school job.

When she was fired, her manager suggested that she become a stripper at the strip club across the street to make more money. Since it did not align with her mom’s beliefs, she told her mom she was making all of her money from babysitting.

While it did not align with her mother’s beliefs, Cardi B claims that stripping was a good thing for her. In fact, she says that it “saved her” because it gave her enough money to move out of the place where she was living with an abusive boyfriend.

Since then, Cardi B has opened up about her relationship with God. She believes that God brought her to stripping as a way of saving her from her abusive relationship.

Making a Fashion, or Political, Statement?

With her Catholic background, Cardi B has made it clear that she is not Muslim. However, she has always had a passion for fashion

In late September 2019, Cardi B debuted an outfit for Paris Fashion Week, posing in front of the Eiffel Tower with a floral face-covering and bodysuit. Some might think nothing of it, except that it is illegal to wear a face covering–known as a niqab–in France.

This upset Muslim women across the world who have been told that there is a niqab ban, even if it is used for religious reasons. A large amount of unrest arose on social media, but there have been no conclusions made on the intentions behind the French law.

Some wonder if she was attempting to make a political point, underlying her fashion statement, but there is no evidence to back up this claim.
