Peter Schmeichel says 55m star has hardly done anything for Manchester United' since he joined

Manchester United reverted to their old habits again at Brentford on Saturday.

Many fans were hoping that FA Cup win over Liverpool was going to restart their season again just as the final run-in was about to approach.

But the pressure remains on Erik ten Hag, with his team dropping more points in the race for Champions League football.

This is despite substitute Mason Mount scoring a 96th-minute goal, as he thought he had won the game for his side, before Kristoffer Ajer’s equaliser, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the firing line.

But as Peter Schmeichel pointed out, if Manchester United had secured all three points, then it would have been ’so underserved’, as he told Premier League Productions (30/03/24 at 10:10 pm).

The legendary keeper did add that, since Mount secured a £55 million transfer to Old Trafford, ‘he has hardly done anything’.

That’s because the former Chelsea man has been injured for the majority of the campaign, and when he was fit at the start, he just couldn’t get going.

Either way, Peter Schmeichel was pretty clear that Manchester United didn’t deserve anything from their most recent display.

Mason Mount scores first Manchester United goal

“He has hardly done anything for Manchester United since he has arrived at the club,” said Schmeichel.

“So many times, we have seen in Manchester United’s history, there is somebody turns out and becomes a hero. You thought that was one of those moments.

“But that would have been so undeserved had that (Mount’s winner) stood and it’s a 1-0 win.”

Mason Mount needs time

It has been a struggle for the playmaker and it doesn’t help that he is playing for a team so up and down as Man United.

In truth, fans probably won’t get to see the best of Mount now until next season.

Now, it’s just a case of trying to be as efficient as possible, help his team as high up the table as possible and then to possibly FA Cup glory.

Yes, the defensive issues won’t away for ten Hag, but they should see off Coventry in the FA Cup and then it’s another final for Man United to try and win.
